It’s nice to be back in basketball season and the Bulldogs had a wonderful first game! I was pulling double duty that night, photographing for the Tribune as well as for the students and parents. I’ll have more pictures of the crazy crowd and “surfing bulldog” in the near future. The Band kept things lively as did the pre-game and halftime entertainment. I’ll have more photographs posted as time allows. Enjoy! You can view the rest of the images from the Varsity Boys vs. North Harrison game and more recent images from NAHS Boys basketball by clicking this link NAHS Boys Basketball vs. North Harrison

Prints available!!!

I was an athlete throughout my school years and look back on the pictures my father took with some degree of professionalism. I mean, he wasn’t a professional, nor did he have access to be where he needed to be, or the insane lenses to get the Sports Illustrated shot of me running hurdles or slam dunking from the free throw line (kidding here, of course), but he did the best with what he had. What I love doing is capturing moments that people can look back on for years to come and have them taken back to that winning jumpshot, running in for a touchdown, spiking against two defenders or marching with your trumpet at halftime. Everyone has something they do well, or does something they want to remember forever… And that’s my job.

I will be following sports, fans, bands and events at NAHS throughout the 2006-2007 school year and photographing them. I plan to offer prints for publication in the NAHS yearbook free of charge as a thank you to the school for the chance to photograph. Also, a percentage of sports prints sold to parents, students and family will be donated to the NAHS Booster Club as a show of thanks. Please contact me with print requests either by calling (502) 599-8483 or by email at Stephen A. Harmon Photography. Here is my pricing:

8×10 $20.00
5×7 $15.00

Please feel free to contact me should you have any questions.

Sectional Championship time for the boys at NAHS. The match went easy to the boys and they went on to regionals. I was able to spend a little time photographing their No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 singles as the doubles matches were over real quick. New Albany faced Madison in on Thursday night and the Bulldogs put on an impressive show. They sailed through the best 3 of 5 games without a sweat. Volleyball is all about the kill! But let’s not forget the teamwork and shuffle before that third hit.

So close and yet so many flags on the play. Late in the second half and the throw was right on the money but pass interference was called. I really love getting out and photographing high school sports. There’s a real sense of competiveness, not to mention school spirit, that thrives in high school sports, which makes the game even more thrilling!

Welcome to the Blog

Thank you for stopping by to look at what’s going on at New Albany High School, from a photographic perspective. My name is Stephen of Stephen A. Harmon Photography and this will be a temporary home for links to picture galleries from sports and events I’ve photographed. Feel free to contact me at any time about an event or see if I can get your event on my calendar. I am also available for on location senior portraits.

To give you a little background, I am a local photojournalist/studio owner spending the 2006 through 2007 school year trying to capture the spirit of New Albany High School. Also, I will make donations to the New Albany High School athletic fund for any photographs purchased throughout the year, as I am a big believer in giving back to the community. Since childhood, I have had a camera in my hand and since, have earned a degree in photojournalism from Ball State University, worked for newspapers, the Associated Press and Reuters News services, sending images world-wide, Paramount Pictures and currently for my own studio specializing in wedding, portraiture and commercial work.

A photojournalist, who worked for the Courier Journal at the time, came and spoke at our high school during journalism class and I was deeply moved by his images. I would love to pay back the favor and do this at New Albany High School to help promote a passion for photography. I also welcome any of the NAHS newspaper or yearbook staff to join me on the field or court so I may help them to learn more about photography and sports photography. Feel free to contact me to set up a meeting place at the event.
